Job Summary:
1. Ability to walk/hike extensively and in rough terrain and remain on your feet for 10+ hours.
2. The on-site monitor/technician should have knowledge of tribal cultural resources.
3. Ability to travel to project sites within traditional tribal territory. Must have own transportation and valid Driver’s License.
4. Knowledge and understanding of NEPA, Section 106 and the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), as amended.
5. Ability to advocate for the preservation in place of Native American cultural features through knowledge and understanding of mitigation provisions, and through knowledge and understanding of Section 106 of the NHPA.
6. Ability to read a topographical map and be able to locate sites and reburial locations.
7. Knowledge and understanding of archaeological practices, including the phases of archaeological investigation.
8. Must be dependable and punctual and able to commit to short notice on-call projects.
9. Ability to work with local law enforcement officials and the Native American Heritage Commission to ensure the return of all associated grave goods taken from a Native American grave during excavation.
Must take and pass an initial mandatory drug test, and subsequent random testing.
Archeological Technician Training is mandatory. The Training is a week-long and will bring the Technician up to date on all required knowledge and understanding requirements including: identification of cultural resources, NAGPRA, NEPA, NHPA, Section 106 and data compilation.
